Read The TOS carefully
Reading TOS carefully is very important in order to find a reliable hosting provider, especially if you intend to use a shared hosting plan.
Here are several things to notice:
- Content
What kind of contents allowed? Make sure your sites will not be hosted with sites that provide hacking or piracy related materials.
- Spam
You have to make ascertain that the company does not tolerate spam activities so that you will not encounter email delivery problems because of spam complaints against other sites on the same server.
- Usages
If a provider allows users to use scripts or do activities that eat up system resources, you might find your sites going down. One of the reasons I chose Hostgator that time was because they disabled the usage of a very popular automatic script. It seems that the script had used too many resources.
Then you should also notice carefully the pricing policy, guarantee and other important things.
My own rule regarding TOS is it should not be too strict and too weak.
